Tell_us_about_your_restorations

We found the boat in 2008 sitting on blocks in a feild. We have been told its been sitting there for between 7 and 10 years. The previous owner had cut the keel out with the intent of having it fixed, they lost intrest and there it sat. When we found her there were no carbs, missing one sea water pump, missing both "intermediate shift links" (I'm told thats what the things with the springs are called on the side of the out drive)and leaking water from the upper canopy and most of the windows... PERFECT!

Future_Restorations

We bought a old house trailor to make into a boat trailor. Found more holes around an old patch under the bathroom. Future plans: fixing the bottom, finishing the trailor, blasting fixing leaks and painting the entire boat. We may bring it home to make things easier. I also have all the paper work from the factory. electrical print, plumbing print, owners manul, email me if you need any thing I might have, I'll be glad to help.

RQR_Impressions

We read the entire thing befor we went through with buying the boat.It made me think bringing this one back to life was possible.

Purchased off E-Bay July 2008, purchased and re-fit trailer from Craigs List. Had to remove the Flying Bridge to get her down the highway. Finaly got her home Oct 2008. Removed everything, floor, walls and cieling. Acid washed hull interior steel and painted with Rustolium Rusty Metal Primer. Reinstalled plywood on floor added 2" blue foam insulation on walls. Re-worked 110v and some 12v, covered the walls with 1/4" plywood as a base. After re-working the layout I layed manufactured hard wood want to be. re-worked the cabin where it meets deck removing some rust reforming a radious so water would no longer creat a problem. Built a gang plank fron 4"x3" angle mounting to the bow. Built jack pole with boom to rase and lower gang plank with a 9,000 lb winch for the gang plank and a 4,500 lb winch for boom. This is held to the boat with 1" pins. Built a Pilot House frame from 1 1/2" sq steel tube and pre-fit to upper deck. Removed the A/C unit and filled with steel. All the steering, wiring and controls were re-routed to the upper deck. Found a 42" wheel from an old River Boat that ran the Illonis River in the late 1800's Re-worked the power steering to adapt the wheel. Build a paddle wheel from 2 54" hay rake wheels and mounted to the transom with 10" junior channel and 1 1/2" angle for latteral stability. Installed (2) 4" jack poles running 1/2" guy wire with turn buckles to keep the paddle wheel vertical. The smoke stacks are 12" pipe 12 ga. 7 ft tall without pudding (decoration) this will add 2 more ft., mounted to top deck. All had to be removable to travle the highways. I love engineering. We lost our business July 2009, sold it for the debt. We were even as far as money goes $0.00. Listed our home for sale July 2009, while hanging dry wall 9 ft in the air the ladder came down with me on it crushing the heel on my left foot. While still bouncing I said we will sell the house... We did in 45 days of listing. I was in a wheel chair with 9 screws and 7 plates. My wife and friends loaded our trailer and boat with what we were keeping, sold and or gave away the rest. Moved to Austin, TX Oct 2009 leaving the boat in storage. Jan 4, 2010 our boat was delivered re-photos. I can now walk and get back to work. We unloaded boat. You are up to date. See future for the rest.

I acquired this boat from a great lady that has had it in her family for 20 years or more. I feel like one of the luckiest "new owners" on earth. She gave me every receipt for everything that has been done to or purchased for this boat. I have the original literature from river queen that was supplied with the boat when it was new. Also, she included the generator, main engine, and outdrive manuals. The first thing i need to do is replace the front part of the roof. A tree fell on it during an ice storm a few years back. They got it put back in some kinda shape but it's not perfect. I also plan to replace the carpeting and flooring in the cabin. The outside side of the cabin is in desperate need of repainting also. Other than that, I'm sure I will be doing plenty of repairs as I go.

Where do I begin? Dory has had lots of new paint above and below. I have been returning it to its original color. I do know it used to be named VEEGER and BOFUS before that. It has had an entire new roof. All plywood. New rugs throughout and a new floor in the kitchen. New head. Somebody moved the kitchen area to the back. I believe originally there were bunks there. She has also had what appears to be a second hull welded over the top of the original.

Future_Restorations

My only future plans are to keep the rot and the rust off her. I'd like to replace the paneling on the inside. Anybody know about how many sacrificial anodes a boat like this should have?

RQR_Impressions

You know a River Queen, like any boat can be a lot of work. I really was about ready to give up but when I saw Mike's refit page and the Registry I was encouraged to get back in there and keep working. Thanks Mike!
